XCD -- FREEWARE EXTENDED CHANGE DIRECTORY COMMAND
=================================================

XCD is a Win32 console application, designed for use with Windows 95. It
provides an extended change directory command, which, unlike the in-built
Windows 95 version, is able to accept wild-cards. This is a boon in these
days of long filenames, which can take ages to type, thus making trivial
operations like changing directory a tedious process.

To install the software, copy the xcd1.exe and xcd.bat files into some
directory on your path. You must also have the TEMP environment variable
configured to point to some valid directory. This directory is used to
hold the temporary batch files created by xcd1.exe, a technique required
in order to allow the program to change its parent's working directory.

The software is simplicity itself to use -- just type "xcd", followed by
the ambiguous path specification, and press enter. Each portion of the
path will be matched in turn against the first suitable directory. This
allows commands like "xcd c:\pr*\*ex*" to, say, select the MS Exchange
directory on this machine. If you specify a drive letter, xcd will also
change to that drive, as this is more often the required intention.
